I am as the Divine created me.

This single Thought, held firmly in the mind, will awaken the world. Thus we repeat It now, as we will from time to time in new form as we reach new stages in learning. It will mean far more to you as you advance. These Words are sacred, for they are the Words the Divine gave in answer to the world the separated ones made. By them it disappears, and all things looked upon within its misty clouds and vaporous illusions vanish as these words are spoken. For they come from the Divine.

Here is the Word by which the Divine Children became their Creator’s Happiness, Its Love, and Its Completion. Here Creation is proclaimed, and honored as It is. There is no dream these Words will not dispel, no thought of separation and no illusion that the dream contains that will not fade away before their Might. They are the Trumpet of Awakening that sounds around the world. The dead awake in answer to Its Call. And those who live and hear this Sound will never look on death.

Holy indeed are they who make these Words their own, arising with them in their mind, recalling them throughout the day, and at night bringing the Words with them as they go to sleep. Their dreams are happy and their rest secure, their Safety certain and their body renewed, because they sleep and waken with the Truth these Words contain before them always. They will awaken the world because they give the world what they have received each time they practice these Words of Truth.

Today we practice simply. For the Words we use are mighty, and they need no thoughts beyond themselves to change the mind of the one who uses them. So wholly is this mind changed that it is now the Treasury in which the Divine places all Its Gifts and all Its Love to be distributed to all the world, increased in giving, and kept complete because Its Sharing is unlimited. And thus you learn to think with the Divine. The Vision of Divine Essence has restored your sight by healing and awakening your heart and mind.

We honor you today. It is your Inheritance of perfect Holiness that you now accept. With this acceptance is awakening brought to everyone, for who could cherish separation when Holiness like this has blessed the world? Who could despair when perfect Joy is theirs, available to all as Remedy for grief and misery and all sense of loss, and for complete freedom from separation and guilt?

And who would not be sister and brother to you now, who are their awakener and friend? Who could fail to welcome you into their heart with loving invitation, eager to unite with one like them in holiness?

You are as the Divine created you. These Words dispel the night, and darkness is no more. The Light is come today to bless the world, for you have recognized the Children of the Divine, and in your Recognition is the world’s.

Chapter 14: Reality and Release

 

3. Release from Guilt to Be Released

You are accustomed to the notion that the mind can perceive the source of pain where this source is not. The doubtful service of displacement is to hide the real source of your guilt, and keep from your awareness the full perception that this source is insane, or not real. Displacement is always maintained by the illusion that the believed source of guilt and pain, from which attention is diverted, must be true. And that the source must be fearful, or you would not have displaced the guilt onto what you believed to be less fearful. You are therefore willing, with little opposition, to look upon all sorts of “sources” underneath awareness, provided that they are not the real source, to which they bear no true relationship at all.

Insane ideas have no real relationships, and that is why they are insane, or not real. No real relationship can rest on guilt, or even hold one spot of it to mar its innocence. For all relationships that guilt has touched are used only to avoid the guilt and the other person’s reality, which it is feared would confirm the reality of the guilt. What strange relationships have been made for this strange purpose! And those in them forgot that real relationships are holy, and cannot be used at all by those in them. They are used only by the Holy Spirit, and it is this Use that makes them real. The Holy Spirit cannot use them if you displace your guilt upon them. For, by preempting for your own ends what should have been given to Spirit, It cannot use the relationship for your Release until you change your mind about its purpose.

Anyone who would unite in any way with a brother or sister for their own personal “salvation” will not find it in that strange relationship. The relationship in such a case is not shared, and so it is not real. In any union with a brother or sister in which you seek to lay your guilt upon them, or share it with them, or perceive their own, you will feel guilty. Nor will you find satisfaction and peace with them in such a relationship, because the union with them will not be real. You will experience guilt in that relationship because you put it there.

Until they decide otherwise, those who suffer guilt will feel compelled to attempt to displace it, because they do believe in the guilt and the suffering. And if they choose not to see within and let the guilt go, they will not be able to let the suffering go. By believing that the source of guilt is because they are guilty, they cannot know they love, and cannot understand what loving is. Their main concern, beyond their conscious awareness, is to perceive the source of guilt outside themselves, and thus beyond their own control.

When you maintain that you are guilty, but convince yourself that the source of your guilt lies in your past or outside of you, then you are not seeing within. The past is not in you. Your weird associations to it have no meaning in the present, and this you will understand when you see within. Yet if you let these associations stand between you and your sisters and brothers, then you will find no real relationships at all. Can you expect to use your sisters and brothers as a means to solve the past, and still to see them as they really are now? Awakening is not found by those who use their sisters and brothers to resolve problems that are not there. For all problems, past, present and future, have been resolved forever by the Atonement, which is why accepting this Resolution for yourself from Spirit is your sole responsibility, and the only way to escape the past. In the past you didn’t want awakening. Would you impose such idle wishes on the present, and hope to find awakening now?

The source of guilt and its pain are not in the past or outside of you, but in your mind now as your present misunderstanding of Reality. Atonement is also in your mind now to correct this misunderstanding and show you your complete Innocence. When you see within, you see the source of your guilt and the Atonement where these actually are in your mind. Atonement then accepts whatever you believe you are guilty for, and gives you the Truth of your eternal Innocence in exchange. This removes the actual source of the guilt and its pain by healing your mind of its delusion about itself—that it could have ever done anything to cause it to lose its perfect Innocence. Atonement was created to serve the Children of the Divine in this way.

Determine, then, not to be as you were in the past, attempting to use displacement to escape your feared guilt and its pain. Use no relationship to hold yourself or your sisters and brothers to the past, but with each one, each day, be born anew. A minute, even less, will be enough in any circumstance to free you from the past, and give your mind in Peace over to the Atonement. When everyone is welcome to you as you would have yourself be welcome to your Creator, you will perceive no guilt in yourself. For you will have accepted the Atonement for yourself, which shone within you all the while you dreamed of guilt and refused to see within and behold the Atonement.

As long as you believe that guilt is justified in any way, in anyone, whatever they may do, you will not see within, where you will always find Atonement. The end of guilt cannot come to you as long as you believe there is a reason for guilt. For you must learn that guilt has no reason, isn’t real, and is therefore always totally insane. The Holy Spirit seeks not to dispel Reality. If guilt were real, Atonement would not be. The Purpose of Atonement is to dispel illusions, not to establish them as real and then forgive them. The Holy Spirit does not keep illusions in your mind to frighten you, and show them to you fearfully to demonstrate what It has saved you from. What Spirit has saved you from is gone forever.

Therefore give no reality to guilt, and see no reason for it regardless of appearances. The Holy Spirit does what the Divine would have It do, and has always done so and always will. It has seen through separation, but knows Union. It teaches healing, but It also knows Creation. It would have you see and teach as It does, and through It. But you have temporarily forgotten what It knows, though It is yours eternally.

Now it is given you to heal and teach, in order to create now what will be. As yet it is not now. The Children of the Divine believe that they are lost in guilt, alone in a dark world, where pain is pressing everywhere upon them from without. When they have seen within, and beheld the Radiance there, they will remember how much their Creator loves them. And it will seem incredible that they had ever thought their Creator looked upon them as condemned and loved them not.

The moment you realize that guilt is not real but only a misunderstanding about Reality, entirely unjustified and without reason, and insane in every circumstance, you will not fear to behold Atonement and accept It wholly. You who have been unmerciful unto yourself do not yet remember your Creator’s perfect Love. And, looking without mercy upon your sisters and brothers, you do not yet remember how much you love them. Yet it is forever true. In shining Peace within you is the perfect Innocence in which you were created. Fear not to behold the lovely Truth in you. See through the cloud of guilt that dims your vision, and past darkness, to the Holy Place where you will behold the Light.

The Altar to your Creator is as pure as the Divine, Who raised It to Itself. Nothing can keep from you what Divine Essence would have you see. Its Will is Its Creator’s, and It offers Mercy to every Child of the Divine, as It would have you do. Awaken from the dream of fear. Release from guilt as you would be released. There is no other way to see within and behold the Light of Love shining as steadily and as surely as the Divine Itself has always loved Its Children, and as Its Children love It. There is no fear in Love, for Love is guiltless. You who have always loved your Creator can have no fear, for any reason, to see within, and behold your holiness in the Atonement there.

It is impossible that you are as you believed you were. Your guilt is without reason because it is not in the Mind of the Divine, where you are. And this is true reason, or Reason, which the Holy Spirit would restore to you. It would remove only illusions. All else It would have you see. And, in the Vision of Divine Essence, Spirit would show you the perfect Purity that is forever within the Divine’s Children.
