Miracles are seen in the Light of the world, and Light and Strength are One.

The idea for today is an extension of the previous one. You do not yet think of Light in terms of Strength and darkness in terms of weakness. That is because your idea of what perceiving means is tied up with the body, and its eyes and brain. This is why you believe that you can change what you perceive by putting little bits of glass or plastic before your eyes, held in a frame or placed against the eyes. This is among the many enchantment beliefs that come from the conviction that you are a body, and that the body’s eyes can see.

You also believe the body’s brain can think. If you understood the Nature of Thought, you could only laugh at this idea. It is as if you thought you held a match that lights the Sun and gives it all its warmth, or that you held the universe in your hand, securely bound until you let it go. Yet these ideas are no more foolish than to believe that the body’s eyes can see or its brain can think.

It is the Divine’s Strength in you that is the Light of the world in which you see, as it is Its Mind with which you truly think. Experiencing Its Strength dissolves the belief in weakness. It is your weakness that looks through the body’s eyes, peering about in darkness to perceive the likeness of itself: the small, the weak, the sickly and the dying, those in need, the helpless and afraid, the sad, the poor, the starving and the joyless. These are looked upon through eyes that cannot see and therefore cannot wholly bless.

Strength sees beyond these things by seeing beyond appearances. It keeps Its steady Gaze upon the Light that is beyond them. It unites with Light, of which It is a Part. It sees Itself. It brings the Light in which your holy Self appears. In darkness and weakness you perceive a self that is not there.

Strength comes from Truth and shines with the Light Its Source has given It. Weakness reflects the darkness of its maker. It is sick and looks on sickness, which is like itself.

Strength is the Truth about you. Weakness is an idol mistakenly honored and cherished so that Strength may seem to be immobilized, and darkness rule where the Divine appointed that there should be Light.

Truth is the Awakener, and can only will Happiness and Peace for everyone. It gives Its Strength in limitless Supply to everyone who asks. It sees that lack in anyone would be a lack in all, and so It gives Its Light that all may see, and benefit as One. Truth’s Strength is shared, that It may bring to all the miracle in which they will unite in Purpose, in forgiveness, and in Love.

Weakness, which looks about in darkness, cannot conceive a purpose in forgiveness and in Love. It looks upon all others as different from itself, and looks on nothing in the world that it would share. It fears and judges and condemns, but does not love. In darkness it remains to hide itself, and dreams that it is strong and conquering, a victor over limitations that only grow in darkness to enormous size. It rejects and attacks itself, and darkness covers everything it looks upon, leaving it with dreams as fearful as itself. No miracles are permitted in its dreams, but only conflict. It separates itself from what it looks upon, while Light and Strength know Themselves and all that They see as One.

The Light of Strength is not the light you perceive with the body’s eyes. It does not change and flicker and go out. It does not shift from night to day and back to darkness until the morning comes again. The Light of Strength is constant, sure as Love, forever glad to give Itself away because It knows It can only give to Itself. No one can ask in vain to share Its Vision, and none who enters Its Abode can leave without a miracle before their eyes, and Strength and Light abiding in their heart.

The Strength in you will offer you the Light of the world and guide your perceiving, so that you don’t dwell on idle shadows that the body’s eyes provide for self-deception. Strength and Light unite in you, and where they meet your holy Self stands ready to embrace you as Its Own. Such is the Meeting Place we try today to find and rest in, for the Peace of the Divine is where your Self, Its Child, is waiting now to meet Itself again, and be as One.

Let us give twenty minutes twice today to join this Meeting. Let yourself be brought unto your holy Self. Its Strength will be the Light in which the Gift of Vision is given you. Leave, then, the dark a little while today. We will practice closing the body’s eyes, seeing in the Light, and asking Truth to show us how to find the Meeting Place of self and Self, where Light and Strength are One.

After the morning meeting, we will use the day in preparation for the time at night when we will meet again in Hope and Trust. Let us repeat as often as we can the idea for today, and recognize that we are being introduced to sight, and led away from darkness to the Light, where only miracles can be perceived.

Chapter 6: Spirit’s Lessons of Undoing

 

2. The Synonyms of Being

In this Course several words or terms are regarded as synonymous that are not ordinarily regarded so, for example the words “having” and “being,” as well as “hearing” and “being.” To these we can add “learning” and “being,” “teaching” and “being,” and, above all, true “projecting” and “being.” All of these terms are synonymous in this Course because, as has been said before, every idea begins in the mind of the thinker and extends everywhere. Of course, what extends from the mind is still in it, and through what it extends it knows itself, or its being. This is its natural talent. The word “knows” is correct here, even though the ego does not know, and is not concerned with “being” at all. The Holy Spirit still holds knowing safe through Its impartial and true Perception. By attacking nothing, Spirit presents no barrier at all to the Communication of the Divine. Therefore, the ego’s insane idea that being can be threatened never enters here. The true part of your mind, Part of the Divine’s Mind, can never be defiled. The ego never was and never will be part of it.

But through the ego a person can have and hear and learn and teach and project what is not true. If they do, then from what they have thus made they teach themself to believe that they are not what they are, and are what they are not. You cannot teach what you have not learned. And what you teach you strengthen in yourself because you are sharing it. Therefore every lesson you are teaching you are learning. That is why it is important that you teach only one lesson. If you are to be conflict-free yourself, which I and all the world need you to be, you must learn only from the Holy Spirit, and teach only by It.

You are only Love, but when you denied this in the separation you made what you are something you must learn. This Course said before that the true message of the crucifixion is “Teach only Love, for that is what you are.” This is the one lesson that is perfectly unified, because it is the only lesson that is One. And only by teaching it can you learn it.

If the statement, “As you teach so will you learn,” is true, and it is true indeed, then you must always remember that what you teach through everything you mis-project as well as truly project is teaching you. What you truly project you know and what you mis-project you believe. The only real safety is in projecting only the Holy Spirit, because as you see Its Gentleness in others your own mind perceives itself as totally harmless. Once your mind can accept this fully, it will not feel the need to protect itself. The Protection of the Divine then dawns upon it, assuring it that it is perfectly safe forever.

The perfectly safe are wholly benign. They bless because they know they are blessed. Without anxiety about danger or lack, the mind is wholly kind and abundant, and because it projects beneficence, it is beneficent.

Safety is the complete relinquishment of attack. No compromise is possible in this. Teach or demonstrate attack in any form, and you will have learned it and it will hurt you. But your learning what is not true is temporal, and you can unlearn it simply by not continuing to demonstrate or teach it. Since you cannot not teach, your awakening rests in teaching exactly the opposite of everything the ego believes and projects. This is how you will learn the Truth that will set you free, and keep you free as others learn Freedom of you.

The only way to have Peace is to teach Peace. By learning it through true projection, it becomes a part of you that you know, because you cannot teach truly what you have dissociated, and can only teach what you associate with. Only thus can you find again the Knowledge you relinquished.

Every idea you share is one you must therefore have. It awakens in you through the conviction of teaching. Remember that if teaching is being and learning is being, then teaching is learning. Everything you teach you are learning. Teach only Love, and learn that Love is yours and you are Love.
