I will receive whatever experience I request.

What is the ego?

 

No one desires pain. But it can be believed that pain is pleasure. No one would avoid their happiness. But it can be believed that joy is painful, threatening, and dangerous.

Everyone will receive the experience they request. But they can be confused indeed about what they want, the state they would attain. What experience can they then request that they would want when they receive it, if they ask for what will frighten them and bring them suffering?

Let us resolve today to ask for what we really want, and only this, that we may live this day in Freedom, without confusing pain with Joy, or fear with Love.

 

Creator, this is Your Day. It is a day in which I would do nothing by myself, but hear Your Voice in everything I do, requesting only what You offer me, accepting only Thoughts You share with me.

Chapter 3: How Is Healing Accomplished?

 

9. Does Jesus Have a Special Place in Healing?

Because of the compelling nature of the illusion of this world, the Divine’s Gifts can rarely be received directly, including the Gift of awakening. Even the most advanced of the Teachers of the Divine may give way temporarily while they are still in this world to the temptation to mis-project. Would it be just if the healing of their students were affected because of this?

One source of sacred scripture, the Bible, suggests that whatever is asked in the name of Jesus, who became One with Divine Essence, shall be done. Is this suggestion merely an appeal to magical thinking? A name does not heal, nor does an invocation call forth any special power. What does it mean to call on Jesus, who became known as having overcome all illusions of separation? What does calling on his name confer? Why can the appeal to him be part of healing?

This Course has stated that any Child of the Divine who has perfectly accepted the Atonement for themself can heal the world. Indeed, this has been accomplished. The temptation in this world to mis-project the belief in a will other than the Divine’s may recur to others, but never to this one who has transcended all illusions and returned to eternal Wholeness. He has overcome death because he has fully accepted Life. He has recognized himself as the Divine created him, and in so doing he has recognized all created beings as One with him. He has become the risen Child of the Divine as Wayshower for all Children of the Divine who yet sleep and dream. His will has become One again with the Will of the Divine, for he has accepted his complete Union with the Creator. There is no limit on the Power he shares with his sisters and brothers toward their awakening, because it is the Power of the Divine.

What does this mean to the Teachers of the Divine and their students? It can mean that in remembering this ever-present friend of humanity they remember themselves as ever-present friends of their sisters and brothers. In these holy relationships can be found the whole Relationship of the Children of the Divine with their Creator. This friend’s completed Learning guarantees your own success, and his fulfilled Part in the Atonement assures yours.

Can Jesus really be available to help with any need we have, where we are right now? He made many promises regarding this, including to be with those who call on him, even to the end of the perishable world. Remember his promises made and kept, and ask honestly whether it is likely that he could fail to keep those regarding his availability to assist anyone who calls on his help any time in any place. Can the Divine fail Its Children? And can one who is One with the Divine be unlike It? They who completely transcend all illusions of time and space, including the projection of these as a body, have transcended all limitations. Would the Teacher of the Teachers of the Divine be unavailable to those who call on him?

The name of Jesus, One with Divine Essence, like all words of this world, as such is only a symbol, but it stands for Love that is not of this world. Therefore it is a symbol that can safely be used as one name for the many names of all the Representatives of the Divine to whom the Teachers of the Divine may call. The name of a perfect Teacher of the Divine becomes the shining symbol for the Divine’s Word of Truth and Love, so close to what it stands for that the little space between the two is lost the moment that the name is called to mind. Remembering this name is to give thanks for all the Gifts the Divine has given Its Children. And Gratitude to the Divine becomes the Way in which It is remembered, for Love must be present with a grateful heart and thankful mind. The Divine enters easily there, for these are the true Conditions for our coming Home.

Jesus has walked the Way to awakening and is available to walk in this Way with his sisters and brothers all the way to their awakening. Gratitude is natural to every sister and brother for their Part in completing the Divine Family, and to all Teachers of the Divine for helping to bring the Plan of Awakening to completion. Jesus has asked for Love, but only that he might give It to you through your giving It to him, for you are still learning to love yourself. In his eyes your Loveliness is so complete and flawless that he sees in It the Likeness of the Creator. Through this seeing, all his sisters and brothers become the Symbol of the Divine on Earth.

To you Jesus turns for Hope, because in you he sees the Boundlessness of Perfection. In his eyes Divine Essence’s Vision shines with perfect Constancy. He has remained with all his sisters and brothers, and will remain as everyone’s friend and helper until all have awakened, time is ended, and all of the Divine’s Children are Home.

No one outside of Heaven can grasp what Heaven is, or what Its One Creator really means. Yet we have Witnesses to this who have returned to their true Home and are available to help their sisters and brothers do the same. It is to them that Wisdom appeals. Everyone who has become a true and dedicated Teacher of the Divine always remembers their sisters and brothers. Yet what each teacher can offer them is limited by what they have themselves learned in time. They cannot teach how to transcend limitations they have not yet themselves transcended.

There are Teachers whose learning far exceeds what the Teachers of the Divine still on their journey of awakening have yet been able to learn. And Their Learning is available to all. So we may turn to one who laid all limits by, and went beyond the furthest reach of learning. He goes with all his sisters and brothers on this journey now, for all were joined with him when he went first. And you were with him then, as you are now. This Course has come from him because his words have reached you in a language you can love and understand.

Are other teachers possible to lead the way to those who speak in different tongues and appeal to different symbols? Certainly there are. The Divine assures that everyone has a very present Help in this world, an awakener who can symbolize Itself. So do we need a many-faceted curriculum, not because of content differences but because symbols must shift and change to suit the need.

Jesus is here to answer those who call to him. In him they will find the Divine’s Answer. He invites all to teach and learn with him. He is always present.
